Beach Restoration Project

This page serves to inform everyone about the Beach Restoration and Living Shoreline project. The area we speak of is accessible via the beach access road at the end of Kent Avenue.

Project Scope and Phases

The project scope includes the construction of a breakwater system and living shoreline restoration which will expand the depth of the current beach and provide protection from further erosion to the cliff. The living shoreline concept is environmentally focused in combination with provisions for renewed access for members who enjoy the recreational aspects beach area. Because of our location in a high action area of the Chesapeake Bay, this approach is recommended over a rock-based revetment because it deflects the wave actions prior to hitting the land along the cliffs.

We are sponsored by Delmarva RC & D, who will manage the grant if we are awarded; Eric Buehl, a Senior Restoration Specialist from University of Maryland’s Sea Grant Extension; and Dr. Alan McCarthy, Cecil County Executive. Also, The Elk & Northeast Rivers Watershed Association (ENERWA) has shown their support of the project and will be engaging with us in the future. Below is a link to a very preliminary plan; if the grant is approved a more detailed plan would be developed. Click link below to view preliminary plan.
